GLNS advises Afinum and Fishing King on the acquisition of online fishing equipment retailer Stollenwerk Group

Fishing King, the largest provider of online fishing courses in German-speaking countries, has acquired Stollenwerk Group.

With the acquisition of the renowned online fishing equipment retailer Fishing King expands its products and services for passionate anglers and fishing beginners. The acquisition represents the first step in the strategy to leverage Fishing King's role as a leading platform and brand in the angling scene to expand into adjacent business areas.

Fishing King is majority owned by Munich-based private equity investor Afinum who acquired the company in 2021. It is the largest fishing school in the German-speaking area. The company has developed the first officially recognized online courses for the fishing exam, which prepare participants fully and flexible in time and location for the state fishing exam.

Stollenwerk was founded in 1994 as a pure mail order company and opened a flagship store in Plochingen near Stuttgart in 2001. Today, it is one of the most successful online stores for fishing equipment with an extensive product portfolio for various types of fishing including spinning, catfishing and sea fishing equipment.

GLNS provided comprehensive advice to Afinum and Fishing King on this transaction. The team led by Dr. Ludger Schult included Jennifer Blümlein (both Private Equity/M&A), Dr. Anselm Lenhard and Nicholas Schildhauer (both Finance) as well as Andreas Scheidle (Tax).
